Sjon Ueckert

My father and I catching a few rays

I am:

            single, legally, mentally, and morally.

alone, notice that I did not say lonely.

self-sufficient, I cook, I clean, I wash, I even do windows (the glass kind).

happy, I work when I want to, I play the rest of the time.

trans-cultural, I was born in American and raised in Europe and the Far East.

romantic, I remember birthdays, open doors, and see the beauty.

adventurous, I travel to exotic places and explore mysterious spaces.

interested, in life, in love, in laughter and in work.

intelligent, inquisitive, independent, and in de way dat tings work.

            I am.

My Brother (Jerry) and I at my Aunt's house in Cypress, Texas

If you have looked through the rest of my site, you can see the places I have lived, my whole life's work and education history and some pictures of me at various stages of my life (including those on this page). Although you now know a lot about me, you still don't know me.

The purpose behind this page is to introduce myself; to let you know a bit more about me.

I have been married, twice. The first marriage lasted seven years and ended when my wife decided that she needed to change her life, including husbands and started an affair with a co-worker, leaving me at home (I was attending university at the time) to take care of her son while she began her new life.

The second marriage lasted for over eleven years and ended when drugs became more important to my wife than her family. At first it was prescription drugs (Halcion, Prozax, and Vicoden) and finally progressed to, of all the stupid things, "Crack." After I left her in 1992, she married the man who introduced her to this life style.

The idea of a single life was scary, to say the least, but after a few years, I found out that it wasn't bad at all. For the first time, I was able to become friends with myself. I learned that I could cook (now I have friends who enjoy dinners at my house, because of my cooking), I can do my own laundry and I keep a clean house. Now when I walk through my house, it is me. The design, the style, the furnishings, the attitude, everything; its me!

Not all my mornings are bright and cheery

I am not a "confirmed" bachelor. I'm not even convinced; I'm just content. I have found the importance of friendship. This is not to say that one day someone will not share my life, it is just that I don't feel any desperation to have a "soulmate." This allows me to take my time and be a little picky.

I'm self employed, although I am under retainer to a couple of companies, and my work hours are defined by the project I am currently involved in. I have an alarm clock, but I only use it to tell time. I wake when I wake and go to sleep when I am tired. In other words, my internal clock runs my time. My life work is primarily project oriented. If I have a career, it is living life to its utmost. I have been a musician, made feature movies and produced a number of CD-Roms and built a number of computer applications. Somehow, through all of this turmoil, I seem to pay my bills and have enough left over to have fun.

I smoke and drink occasionally, I don't like drunkenness, and I enjoy fine food and intelligent conversation.

A few choices:

            Jamaica before Hawaii

            Green before Red

            Rome before Paris

Almost anywhere before Paris

Chateaubriand before steak

Sand before snow
Places I plan to visit:

         Anghor Watt,

the Sultanate of Brunei,

Carthage, Tunisia,

The Haque in Holland,

Myorka in the Mediterranean,

Martinique in the Caribbean,

Belize,

Rio de Janero during Carnival,

St Petersburg, Russia (to see the Summer Palace),

Versailles, France,

and the Black Hills of South Dakota, U.S.A (again)
Places I live:

During part of the summer, I vacation in New Mexico on the East side of the Sandia Mountains. During the Fall,

Winter and Spring, I live in Austin, Texas.
(Update)Actually this has changed. My 83 yr. old Mother (who is quite lively and a dynamite
cribbage player - and one of the first woman pilots in the Civil Air Patrol) now comes to Austin
for the Winter months (way too much snow up at her place) so I am spending more of the year here in Austin.

My attitude:

I rarely lose my temper, it is unproductive and usually causes more trouble than it is worth.

My temperament is quite stable and when I face a difficulty, I usually detach and am able to

view it from the outside. This helps to find a correct solution. I am logical in my approach to

life (except in the case of romance, where logic has no business rearing its ugly head). I am

compassionate (almost to a fault) and I am tender, especially with children. I am not violent,

I think hitting someone is an unforgivable crime (someone especially includes children).

I am a romantic and love to court (that's the old fashioned word for flirting), but I am careful

because I don't like seeing someone hurt
My health:

My only health problem is that I sustained an injury

to my back, which was surgically corrected, but I

lost the upward mobility of my left foot (sciatic

nerve damage). I wear a small brace inside my left

shoe which solves that problem.
My wealth:

I'm not rich, but I'm definitely not poor. I don't have

to worry about retirement and survival.

Bales (standing), Larry (with the glasses), and me (with the moustache).

This was the back of the cover for "Painted Bird."

What I'm looking for:

Friends. If I ever do fall in love again, it will be with a friend. I sure as hell don't want to spend my life with someone who is not my best friend. I want more than sex and companionship. I want a partner in whom I'm able to confide. Who knows my good and bad sides and accepts me for who I am. Someone who will share her life with me as I share mine with her. I love children - I have already raised three (all stepchildren) and am not adverse to raising more, but it is not a necessity.

This is the loft in my house where I work

Ever try to break a cat from thumb-sucking?

This is Spatz

Thank you for visiting me. I hope you'll come back again.
